Where We Work
WHOI's OBS Lab occupies just over 3,700 sq. ft. in the Laboratory for Ocean Sensors and Observing Systems (LOSOS) constructed in 2011. The building was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is WHOI's first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certified laboratory, which assess buildings for materials and methods that foster human and environmental health as well as inside features that contribute to sustainability and workplace efficiency. The OBS Lab space was tailored to meet our specific needs, with ample work space and storage, as well as ready access to staging areas and equipment at WHOI's Quissett and Village campuses, including the Institution's port facility and research vessels.

Additional WHOI Facilities
Just 350 yards from LOSOS is WHOI's Coastal Research Lab, with ready access to a salt water test tank and spacious high bay.

R/V Tioga is an aluminum hulled coastal research vessel that serves ocean scientists and engineers working in the waters off the Northeastern United States. Tioga is owned by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and available for use by OBS Lab personnel to conduct at-sea test deployments in the waters of the Northeast Coast shelf and shelf slope.
